How can one celebrate Christmas without know the true meaning?

Do they think its just a time of gift giving , dinners, parties? I know the true meaning and its none of the above I just mentioned. Seems like the true meaning has lacked over the years and I would for one would love to get back the true meaning again. Too much money is spent for what? To make someone else happy ? I know those contacts of mine know I have become a Scrooge during the holidays but Its Scrooge who is sick of unnessarily spending on STUFF we call it and it should be spent somewhere else that is needed. Those that are homeless those that would love to have a kind word. Those are the things that real Christmas means to me.How can one celebrate Christmas without know the true meaning?
Christmas is for celebrating the birth of Jesus. People are supposed to give gifts to resemble the 3 wise men bringing gifts to baby Jesus. People are so caught up in buying everything they can %26amp; hurry up %26amp; prepare dinner. Some people do not tell their kids about the real reason for Christmas. I wondr if they even remember. Christmas should not be about how many presents you can pile under the tree. It should be about giving and making people happy. Being kind to everyone. Too bad people won't behave like this all year. How can one celebrate Christmas without know the true meaning?
While we should never forget the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of the Lord Jesus our Savior. The giving of gifts did start with him. We do go overboard these days, I agree but I am just as guilty as the next.
People are too taboo now...you say yes, they say no...we are suppose to watch our ways around other cultures...say Happy Holidays as to not offend the people who don't celebrate Christmas...no religious songs...lets do a non denominational theme for Christmas...its disgusting %26amp; I am not going to stand for it!! I know the true meaning of Christmas, and its all about a retail market brainwashing you to spend spend spend...i see these Christmas commercial for Lexus where the husband bought one for his wife...sickning...i know ive never recieved a car for Christmas let alone anyone ever just handing me something...but i still have excellent memories of Christmas because even when my family had no money we were together, we had food on the table %26amp; we had love....its a shame what people hold dear to them now a days.
It's a day in a year. If you think you're doing anything great by giving to people one day every December, you're deluded. All these holier-than-thou types are starting to get on my nerves.
Amen, ((((Kitty))))
some people just don't get it and maybe never will
I know what you mean. It seems we spend so much of our time buying gifts and not thinking about the true meaning of Christmas. So to you Kitty.....

Merry Christmas, may you always have such love and peace in your heart!

From your Friend,

The concept of Christmas goes all the way back. The 25th of Dec. was a Pagan holiday I believe. The Romans after adopting Christianity used that day so that they can control Christianity for their own political advantage. The real birth of Jesus was sometime in April. With all the commercialization of Christmas, we forgot that true meaning over the years of course. I agree with you. Let us go back to the real meaning of Christ's message. Peace on Earth, Good will to ALL! Not just on Christmas but all days.

A BUDDHIST

Thanks for your thoughts

EDIT: A message from John Lennon.

Listen till the end to hear the song.....it made me realize how true his message was....
generally when i think of christmas i tend not to think of the gifts i can recieve but the one i can give. and i am not talking about physical gifts i am talking about innanimate ones, like love and peace. every christmas i get a warm feeling because i am with the ones i love and i feel the warmth of their smile on my face.
what is wrong, exactly, with people celebrating with dinner parties, gift giving, sparkly lights, high heels, cookies for neighbors, carols on the radio, red table cloth out?

Why does it have to be your way?
Christams is about spending tie with family and giving. People think that giving is the true meaning of Christams but do it in the wrong way like buying expensive stuff no one will use or isn't needed on someone else. It has become commercialized over the years. This is why the truing meaning isn't practiced as much as it used to be.
I relize the meaning got way overlooked. Not too long ago children used to think Jesus when they thought of Christmas. Now it is gifts, Santa, gifts, parties, and gifts.
One person's true meaning may be completely different from someone else's. Meanwhile they argue amongst themselves that the other is wrong.

It's not up to you to decide if they are right or wrong. Celebrate how you and your family are going to and let everyone else do their own thing. Make new traditions for your family. You don't have to like or agree with other people's thinking. If you don't like how things are being done right now, then change them. You can't change anyone else but yourself. Many people here complain all the time that they hate commercialism and whatnot that has made Christmas feel cheap and impersonal to them, but yet they argue with anyone who suggests ways to change things, and they refuse to actually do so. If you're not going to take action, then you have no right to complain in the first place. There's time yet to do things differently before Christmas gets here and it can be more memorable than it has been in the past.
