It means ';I'm being true to my conscience, ignoring the influence or opinion of others';. Δαίμονας /demonas/ (genitive of δαίμων /demon/), in Greek, has the meaning of spirit but also of a lesser god; and it, definitely, hasn't always had a negative meaning (as later with Christianity (which is vilifying by nature)).
To be ones true self. Be who you really are. There are many things that this encompasses such as not doing what people expect you to do, do what you feel is right. And, not pretending to be someone who you are not.
That you don't do anything against your own will...like you listen to that little voice inside your head that tells you what is right. You don't let other's theories or opinions cloud your own.
True to yourself-acting according to your conscience-not being swayed by external influences.
One has to be honest with himself first in order to be honest with everyone else.
