Simplistic answer is to say that the symbol represents balance and union. Yin and yang are both types of energy, but also the ideas of light and dark, passive and aggressive.





To get such a symbol on your back is a powerful choice. It is a commitment to live your life in such a manner--to not resist nor embrace either side but to accept both in perfect balance. Peace and chaos. Pain and joy. All things in balance.





Also, the spot of light in the dark and the spot of dark in the light is a reminder that even when immersed in one side there is an element of the other and vice versa.

The ying %26amp; yang comes from chinese philosophy which means the coexistence of the negative and the positive , the good and the bad, the light %26amp; the darkness ...all existing together bringing balance to the universe as we know it .....





So a truer definition would simply be a symbolic representation of the opposite forces which work in tandem with one another bringing balance to the universe.. it affects all things living %26amp; non living as every object has a energy field that it is made up of the elements that are ying %26amp; yang in nature, hence the harmony of state of the object is maintained by keeping the ying %26amp; the yang in balance.


Whenever one of these increases or grows there is trouble as the balance is disrupted.
