The fact that you are reading this means you have a mind.Is this true?

Richard Dawkins does not believe that people have minds.We are only brain machines in his estimate.Materialistic-atheism is self-defeating.The theory itself rests on word forms which are non-material, yet have some reality beyond the ink!!!!The fact that you are reading this means you have a mind.Is this true?
Richard Dawkins, never found his ';true self';. He was always researching the ';unexplainable';! I disagree with his statement and I do vehemently believe that I do have a mind, sometimes very fragile yet extremely strong !The fact that you are reading this means you have a mind.Is this true?
With all my respect to Richard Dawkins, he is saying nonsense!

there would be no difference between human beings and animals if what he's saying is true, he's totally wrong!!!!
even people who cannot read still have minds.
Reading it means that I have a mind. It does not mean you do. However, you writing means you think you have a mind. The ink and the words do not prove you have a mind, but the formation or the thoughts that are expressed in the words do.

However, what is a mind? Its consciousness, you can prove that you are conscious. Richard Dawkins thinks he has a mind, just not anyone else. You can't see, hear, or touch other people's consciousnesses. You have to assume that your experience is the same as everyone else's (that they have consciousness but can't prove that you do).

Thats how I see it.
Your question broaches two fields of study: psychology and philosophy. The fact that someone is reading your question only tells us that they have learned a skill of recognising abstract shapes that convey an agreed meaning.

Anyway you could get really deep and ask what truth is.
And Rene Descartes said ';I think therefore I am.';

What I want to know is why these two entities are separated? Our brains are like machines? Our WHOLE BODIES are like machines! We are learning so much about how the brain works, and I do believe that we will one day (not in our lifetime) we will know exactly how it works... which of course will be much like a machine.

I don't understand, so why can't we have minds?? Even if it's like the 'working memory' of a computer... can't it still be a mind? And who gets to define 'mind'?

So let's say that reality right now is bogus, that none of it is real. Or let's say that we all see things differently. When I see red, maybe you see what I see as blue. Either way, our brains are processing this fake reality as reality itself. Yet, it doesn't mean that we don't have 'minds'.

Religion doesn't have to be wiped out either (I'm not religious, but I am sypathetic). I'm sure if one proved what you say, then religous people would find a way to incorporate their religion.

EDIT: Bonita... There's not a big difference between humans and animals. We're more advanced, that's all. Humans destroy the earth, animals take what they need and give back. What makes you think we're so friggen special?!
yes that is true.
