What does it translate into hebrew? also, I'm curious if the word can be translated into something else than ';rule';. It doesn't make sense why God would punish the woman twice by allowing the man to rule over her, as well as the pains of childbirth? Since there is a period in the verse, could it be that A part of the verse is the punishment, and B part, is simply a statement that she and he will have desire for each other (like Paul states in one of his letters) Why would God give the woman two noticeable punishments, and the man only one minor one. (work) They both sinned, why would one of them, and all generations after her, deserve this?What is the true meaning of word ';rule'; in Gen 3:16?
';husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her...'; Eph.5:25
';...husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.'; Eph.5:28What is the true meaning of word ';rule'; in Gen 3:16?
In the New World Translations of The Holy Scriptures, the word in question is translated ';dominate';.
The verse in question is telling the result of sin, not what God ';allows';
For man, death and unsatisfactory work are not minor consequences.
Many men do not unfairly dominate their wives, especially when they adhere to christian principles.

maw-shal'
A primitive root; to rule: - (have, make to have) dominion, governor, X indeed, reign, (bear, cause to, have) rule (-ing, -r), have power.
why?
for the same reason that God cursed the ground: sin
In primitive societies men ruled over women, just as in the animal kingdom the males rule the roost. This is an animal thing. That does not mean that women were necessarily treated unjustly.
The husband is the head of the woman and his house! And God is the head of man!
