Nowadays it seems like the true purpose of college has been corrupted. Too many ppl go to college to get a degree and make alot of money. isn't college supposed to be about getting an EDUCATION not job prep, if u want that go to a vocational school. College should be about education, friends and lifelong memories NOT just getting a degree to make lots of money
I know i sound a bit harsh and i do recognize the sad fact that college is necessary to make a decent living so i do not blame ppl who go to make lots of money, i blame society for making ppl feel like they have to go to college or they worthless and inferior. I feel like the true purpose of college has been corrupted by society.
Agree with me?What is the TRUE meaning of College?
without college most ppl will fail. What is the TRUE meaning of College?
Somewhat. Years past, the idea of attending college was to obtain a degree in a specialized field. An accredited job field education. Being accredited with a degree means more money, which was and still is the objective. It is, technically an education. What an individual makes of attending college is the difference, to make friends and life-long memories and/or completing the education to be accredited in a specialty. So it still is a little of both.
The true meaning of college has been corrupted ever since the universities decided that they could make a lot of money off students. I attend a large university in the middle of Pennsylvania (I'll let you figure that one out). Last year's operation budget was close to $3 billion. I'm not sure how that's possible, except our president gets about $700,000 when all his expenses and things are covered. Our football coach gets about $500,000 when all his expenses are covered.
I came to college to get a degree, but more so to learn more about a field of study I'm interested in. I want to graduate and get a job where I feel I can make a difference. That may sound a bit noble and foolish, but still, I want to actually do something with my life where I feel I'm helping others in some way. In the process, I've made friends, had fun (sometimes more fun than I should've been having) and had so many experiences that I wouldn't trade for anything. Yes, society tells us we need to get a degree or we won't be allowed to do anything, but still, I've had quite a bit of fun along the way.
I disagree to an extent. I went to college to have fun and move away from home. I didn't even find a major until my senior year and really don't even use my degree in the job field. Many of my friends were like this as well. I think going back to get your Masters is more of the situation you describe.
Certainly.
I don't understand why are these things mutually exclusive. I got education, friends, memories, -and- a degree with which to make money. All in all, college was good times.
Especially opposed to the three years I wasted in the army just before it.
