My dentist told me if my gums bleed it means there getting stronger but is it true?

Ever since my last dentists appointment my dentist told me to brush and try to make my gums bleed but my gums are hurting more and more everytime I brush so I don't know if I should just keep doing this or find a new dentistMy dentist told me if my gums bleed it means there getting stronger but is it true?
i never heard of gums bleeding to get stronger. i think you should stop brushing your teeth so hard if it hurts that much. bleeding gums are usually a sign of a gum disease. you should consult your current dentist and tell him what you think. he may give you a scientific explanation as to why he said that bleeding gums make them stronger. if you think his answer is ok, then you can carry on with it. you can also seek the opinion of another dentist to double-check.My dentist told me if my gums bleed it means there getting stronger but is it true?
Your dentist is right, I'm afraid! The bacteria on your gums around your teeth make your teeth tender, swollen and sore; blood is transferred to your body here to wash away the infection. Think of it as your body trying to defend itself from invading bacteria. When you brush your teeth, you move the bacteria and see the bleeding underneath, and irritate your poorly gums. But it's not you causing the problem. If you miss an area for a while when brushing, this is why they bleed and it's called gingivitis.

The gums take several days to notice that the bacteria have gone and stop trying to defend themselves. That's why yours haven't stopped yet, and are sore from brushing. The longer you haven't cleaned effectively the more you need to scrub a bleeding area, it can take 2 bacteria-free days to stop, it can take a few weeks. If it's very sore its likely that you have a condition called NUG.

Rinse with warm salty water to speed up healing, buy a mouthwash with hydrogen peroxide in it (effervescent - the oxygen bubbles help kill the bacteria) and brush as much as you can cope with twice a day. If you avoid the bleeding areas they will get worse. Don't think of it as trying to make them bleed each time, as eventually they will stop, but trying to brush the cuff of gum around each tooth gently as well as the teeth themselves.
No, your dentist is right. Typically, when someone's gums are weak and they are brushed, they start to bleed. And when you continually brush them, the bleeding stops. Why? b/c the gums have grown stronger and aren't affected by that level of brushing. So if you make your gums bleed intentionally, then they will become 'immune' to that strong level of brushing, and will be extremely strong. If he recommended it, I would keep it up for a while; I mean, he didnt' get a degree for doing nothing. I know your gums probably feel really raw and hurt, but it'll help in the long run. If what I said didn't make sense, think of this as weight lifting. You start of with 50 lbs and then next day you're sore and your arms are killing you. But you keep doingi 50 and eventually it becomes really easy for you..why? b/c you've built up enough arm muscle that is not affected by 50 pounds. But say you want more muscle. You take the next level to 75 lbs and now your arms are killing you again. but you keep doing 75 and all of a sudden, 75 is easy for you now b/c you've built enough muscle to handle 75 pounds. This gum thing is the same. The soreness is the bleeding...but eventually you'll be really buff :).

If however, you begin to have to brush REALLY hard and you barely bleed, you can stop if you'd like b/c you'll have built a good enough level of strenth

No way ! if your gums are bleeding it is a sign that something is wrong. Most peoples gums bleed when they have build up or gum disease if i were you i would get a second opinion and report him to the college.

You should also get a cleaning done by a Dental Hygienist. they go to school and study all about gums.

But get this checked it could lead to bigger problems.

If your brushing to hard you need to stop before you cause gum recession and then need a perio surgery to fix it (i brushed to hard and I'm dealing with the consequences now)

Hope this helps!
You need to go to a periodontist ASAP! He is the gum specialist Your dentist doesn't know what he is talking about at all! You sound like you have gingivitus. Relax! Chill, but be smart and see the periodontist or you may wind up loosing teeth and have receding gums if you don't!
it sounds weird ... the doctor sounds crazy ...

haha ...

anyway , i have heard someone said about this before , it may be true...
You need a new dentist, and you need to report yours to the appropriate authorities...
ur dentist is right but just keep on brushing slowly on ur gums with a soft brush.
If I were you I would find a new dentist and get a second opinion.
